The Trinity Knot

The Trinity Knot is an ancient Celtic symbol preceding Ireland’s written history. Despite its popularity, its meaning remains lost in time.

Though experts are unsure of the trinity knot’s meaning, there have been many theories. The number three was known to hold deep spiritual significance for the Celts. The three corners of the trinity may have represented the three intertwining domains of earth, sea, and sky. They could have even represented lunar cycles or deities. In later centuries, Christians used the trinity knot as a tool to convert Irish natives. They used the three points to explain the holy trinity of the father, son and holy spirit. Today, people across the world recognize the trinity knot to represent the eternal, intertwining nature of love and life.
