Collection: St. Brigid's Cross

St. Brigid is one of the three patron saints of Ireland. Her cross is a powerful symbol of protection.

Legend has it that St. Brigid was born in County Louth, Ireland in 450 AD. There, she became a respected nun and went on to found churches and convents in Kildare. According to Christian tradition, St. Brigid wove the four-armed cross to explain Christianity to a dying pagan chief. However, St. Brigid’s cross has a deeper history. Its origins can be traced back to pre-Christian Ireland and the ancient Goddess Brigid. At Imbolc, a Spring festival in her honor, families wove four-armed protection symbols to hang above their doors. This protected them from supernatural forces and disasters in the coming year.
